YOU GUYS, I stayed up so late last night watching all the celebrities hit that pink carpet
I have to say that, for the most part, I was pleasantly surprised at the celebs’ interpretations of the ‘camp’ theme. Buttt as there is every year, there were some absolute SHOCKERS
So now that the event is over it’s time to give you the run down on the campest queens, the ones that played it safe, and the ‘oh god no’s.
Grab a cuppa, I’ve got a lot to say.
BUT FIRST – a quick education on how the ‘camp’ theme was meant to be interpreted…
In Esquire’s article, the theme was described as “exaggerated exaggeration“. And the easiest example to give is basically the entirety of pop culture, ‘camp’ is going above and beyond even to the point of being completely outrageous. It’s not supposed to be serious or pretentious or subtle, it’s supposed to draw attention and make an entrance. Think of drag queens, think of lady gaga, think of Ezra Miller, even Madonna in some cases.
Before we move on to looking at the costumes of the evening, can we all please have a moment of silence for Rihanna’s and Migos’ absences
Okay I’m ready, let’s judge some outfits!
THE QUEENS OF CAMP
Lena Waithe and Kerby Jean-Raymond
Ezra Miller in Burberry
Hamish Bowles taking OVER the carpet with his Maisonette Margiela Cape
Billy Porter – KING
Harry Styles in Gucci
Giving me allll the capitol vibes
Lady Gaga – the best host in history. 4 OUTFIT CHANGES IN 15 MINUTES!
Katy Perry in Moschino
THE ONES THAT PLAYED IT SAFE..
Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West
As beautiful as she may look, why bother turning up if you’re going to make this little effort towards the theme? Her after party look would have been way more fitting for the carpet. Also – Kanye looks more like her bodyguard than her ‘fashion-forward’ husband, sorry Yeezy you can’t have got the memo.
Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott
Kylie looks beautiful as always, but this was a bit of a half ass effort in my opinion and in the realms of ‘camp’ there is no room for half ass efforts. Also, Travis – adding a diamond keychain to a military style suit doesn’t make it camp.
She looked gorgeous and I am a huge fan of Nicki so I mean no disrespect. However, considering some of the looks she has done in the past for music videos and stage performances, even interviews, I was a little disappointed.
Unfortunately, her outfit just looked a bit boring and last minute.
Chanel is timeless and always delivers beautiful clothing, but I’m not sure this dress screams ‘camp’.
I’m not surprised fans were so disappointed by this look. There is nothing camp about it.
The ‘oh god no’s…
WHAT was she thinking? She looks like a five year old playing dress up. That is not fashion.
I’m not entirely sure how an outfit like this comes about to be honest.. I’m just quite confused.
Again, I’m just quite confused.
Well my friends, I’m officially fashioned out.
I hope you enjoyed my irrelevant opinions and I take everything back when I said that the ‘camp’ theme would be boring. Well. Done. Gaga.
If only Takeoff had made an appearance…
Until next time my loves,
